Oasis Haiku

Your Invitation and Challenge:
3 lines, 17 syllables

Describe your experience with Oasis Ministries in a haiku -
3 lines, 17 syllables.

Prompts:
What image comes to mind from your Oasis experience?
How do you pray?
What have you gained by being a part of the Oasis community?
How are you different as a result of participating?

What is Haiku?

Haiku (HI-coo), a poetic form, is a type of poetry from the Japanese culture.
Three short lines.
First line - five (5) syllables
Second line - seven (7) syllables
Third line - five (5) syllables.
Haiku doesn't rhyme. A Haiku must "paint" a mental image in the reader's mind. This is the challenge of Haiku - to put the poem's meaning and imagery in the reader's mind in ONLY 17 syllables over just three (3) lines of poetry!

Oasis is where you are!

Oasis Ministries for Spiritual Development (Camp Hill, PA), an ecumenical Christian ministry creating contemplative community since 1988, is dedicated to companionship with those walking with God on the inner journey.  Through the teaching of contemplative prayer (silence with the Holy Spirit) and contemplative living (being present, discovering grace and gratitude in the present moment), Oasis guides participants toward the practice of peace, justice and reconciliation within themselves and in the world at large.

Oasis draws upon classical and contemporary writings of the great mystics of the contemplative tradition.  Through long-term programs such as Spiritual Direction for Spiritual Guides and Contemplative Living: The Spirituality of Daily Life, as well as numerous spiritually-based retreats, Oasis provides guidance toward the awareness that, in the eyes of God, we are more than the noise and the strivings and the opinions of our lives, and that this expanded presence in the world promotes a greater good.
